  • Cutting Board Care Plan

Keep your cutting board in top shape with this simple care plan. Proper maintenance not only extends the life of your board but also keeps your food prep safe and sanitary.

    Daily Cleaning

    • Wash after every use with warm water and mild dish soap.

    • Scrub gently using a soft sponge or cloth—avoid harsh scouring pads.

    • Rinse thoroughly to remove soap and residue.

    • Dry immediately with a towel—do not let it air dry or sit in water.

    What to Avoid

    • Never put your board in the dishwasher.

    • Do not soak your board or leave it in standing water.

    • Avoid storing in humid or enclosed environments.

    Conditioning

Once a Month (or as needed), condition your board with food-grade mineral oil or Santanna WoodWorks cutting board oil:

    • Apply oil evenly across the surface using a clean cloth.

    • Let it soak in for 4–6 hours (or overnight for deep conditioning).

    • Wipe off excess oil with a clean, dry cloth.

Optional: Use a beeswax finish every few months for added protection and water resistance.

     Monthly Deep Clean & Deodorize

    To keep your board fresh:

    • Sprinkle coarse salt or baking soda over the surface.

    • Rub with half a lemon to lift stains and neutralize odors.

    • Let sit for 5 minutes, then rinse and dry.

    Sanding (As Needed)

If your board becomes rough or develops deep cuts:

    • Lightly sand the surface with 220-grit sandpaper.

    • Wipe off dust and reapply oil as usual.

    Signs It’s Time to Re-Oil

    • Board feels dry or appears dull.

    • Water doesn’t bead up on the surface.

    • Surface appears fuzzy or has developed cracks.

    Pro Tip:

Rotate your cutting board regularly to prevent uneven wear and warping.
